I saw this in my YouTube feed this afternoon. In fact I just finished watching it. Prepare to have your hair blown back. Blown back by FUN!

I hate change. That's what my friends would tell you, and I freely admit it. It's my issue. I get used to how things are and then, boom, I have to remember how things used to be. And sometimes change is a good thing. I never realize that until after the fact, but there are changes that are for the better. So, it comes with both a glad and heavy heart that I must tell you that some of the current Octet will soon be "Oldtet". Oh, we may see them with the occasional alumni joining the Octet on stage to sing "Princess Papuli" or "I Get Around" during Spring Show or we might remember old favorites as we peruse YouTube's older videos, but they will, from next semester onward, be "Oldtet".
Lawrence Chu who has been in the group forever, Aroon Vijaykar who joined the group slightly after forever and Parth Bhatt whose name I just learned, will be leaving the Octet at the end of the semester. It's always difficult until I see the new group gel. Next semester, the Octet will have some new voices joining them in song. Welcome Zach Johnston and Kyle Crews! I'm sure that they will be wonderful new additions to the Octet! They will probably have another audition to make up the remaining open spot. Well, that's about it for this post - THE FIRST ONE IN APRIL?!? What exactly have I been doing with my time? Oh, and the Octet will be doing an Unbuttoned show (It's FREE, people. Go if you're able to!) Thursday, April 28 · 8:00pm - 9:30pm2050 VLSB (Valley Life Sciences Building) Bless Your Face, -Tiffany Z. Hi Octet fans. Epsecially Jason Mabie fans. With the permission of "the man" himself, I am able to post 5 songs that were recorded by Jason. These were done at a Karaoke studio, 3 or 4 years ago, for fun. PS - These open in RealPlayer. 1.) Long December - Counting Crows.
2.) I Got A Woman - Ray Charles
3.) Against the Wind - Bob Seger
4.) Beyond the Sea - Bobby Darin
5.) No Woman, No Cry - Bob Marley
It's also great to know that this is the type of great music that Jason likes. Leave your comments on his singing! On a funny note, I took a nap and had a dream that Aroon Vijaykar came over to play PS3 with me and my roomates kids! Hahahaha...
Just a short shout out to the newest members of the UC Men's Octet! Parth Bhatt (Tenor 1), Ryan Tabura (Tenor 2), Jordan Edwards (Tenor 2), Patrick Wong (Baritone) and Jeff Nathan (Bass) have joined the solid current members - Isaac Jackson (Tenor 1), Aroon Vijaykar (Baritone) and Lawrence Chu (Bass) to complete the 2010-2011 UC Men's Octet. Best of luck to you in the coming year, and I can't wait to see what you will do to dazzle and amaze your fans!
Thanks for keeping us entertained! Isaac Jackson & Keith Menconi "keepin' it high" on Tenor 1, Albert Han and Brett Goldstein "keepin' it real" on Tenor 2, Georffrey Wing and Aroon Vijaykar "keepin' on keepin' on" on Baritone & Lawrence Chu and Quang Nguyen "keepin' it gangsta fabulous" on Bass.
Love the look into the private world of Octo-guy-dom. The photomontage and singing were excellent. :) Looks like I missed the guys were in Seattle (sitting on Rachael - the bronze pig) @ 1:24 Not sure who is leaving this time around, but good luck to all the guys. -me. PS, if you actually say 'awww', let me know. :) PPS: Thank you, Hilary, for catching the name faux pas. I did, at some point, know Brett's last name is Goldstein. It's all fixted now. Hope you enjoy these as much as I do. :)
One funny thing I'd like to relate is that I had an awesome weird James Bondian/Octet hero dream that was...um, I think due to the post Christmas strange food/drink combo I had before I went to bed. Yeah, it was awesome like James Bond, but it was also weird like Willie Wonka...and when I woke up (before the story should have ended) it kinda looked like I was turning out to be a villain, which kinda disappointed me. But then, I put it down to the food and drink and not to what I actually think of myself. I actually think I'm a geek and not any kind of femme fatale, and villains aren't geeks. Ever. No way. Unless they're femme fatales pretending to be geeks, which is quite possible.
On to my actual posts, now. Right now. Here goes. I love Octet dudes! 2 of them wrote to me after my Christmas post. I'd just like to share them with you. The first was anonymous again. Oooooh, mystery. I like! Also, he provided a little bit of back story on the great fun that the Octet dudes were having in the Silent Night photo montage. Name: Email: Comments: Hey there! Thanks for putting up the videos and being such a stellar fan. Your website it really neat! That front image from the silent night video was at our celebration party for winning ICCAs. A bottle of champagne per member. Whooo, what a night! Anyways, Merry Christmas to you and yours, and a happy, Octet-filled new year. The second was from Aroon, the new Octet dude. I was really surprised, since I only just mentioned him on the last post as being the new guy. Maybe I should just make a post that mentions all Octet dudes, past and present, and see what happens. Name: Aroon Vijaykar Email: (xxxremovedforprivacyxxx) Comments: Hey there, thanks for keeping this blog going. You're right we should get an Octet historian...I'll put your name up for contention with the guys! And we are competing this year so hopefully you can make it down for ICCA's or our Spring Show 2010! First, let's call it official: I love the new guy. 2nd, I would love to be the historian for the Octet. 3rd, I'd love to come down and see either Spring Show or the ICCA's or both. Zowie! If my school schedule (and funds) permit, color me there, Octet dude. Back to sleep, now. -OctetDudeFan |
